Cooperations Follow from First Contacts
Within BAIKEM, the “Bavarian Innovation and Cooperation Initiative Electronics/Microtechnology”, Bayern Innovativ conceived the 4th international one-on-one cooperation forum “Microsystems” on March 8, 2006, together with NEXUS, the European network for microsystems. The combination with the first congress “Trends in Microsystems” the day before was an optimal platform to establish new cooperations in the area of micro- and nanotechnology.
Scheduled just before the CeBIT, Munich was an international meeting point for 160 developers and engineers, purchasers and marketing experts from 18 countries. With roughly 650 meetings and 130 additional ad-hoc meetings a new benchmark was set compared to the 2004 meeting.
The main focus was on new production technologies with highly flexible solutions for the manufacturing of customer specific microsystems, including prototypes, small series and volume production. Therein flexibility is gaining more and more importance, because microsystems are developed in close cooperation with the customer.
As a consequence, the spectrum of invited customer branches was exceptionally broad, including automotives, consumer electronics, biotechnology and medical technologies. For most developers this was a door opener to other branches beyond their main markets.
Besides several global players like Intel, Philips, Renault or Procter & Gamble especially small and medium sized enterprises used the forum for the acquisition of new customers and development orders. Nearly every second meeting was rated successfully by the participants and will subsequently lead to in-depth contacts. Amongst others, the high success rate results from the strong international attendance including Europe, the US and Asia. “An exceptional meeting with many new contacts” and “we’ll be there again next time, because this platform is unparalleled” to cite just a few participants at the end of the two days MEMS event.
